Bounce Rate
The percentage of visitors who navigate away after viewing only one page
Bounce Rate
Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page sessions where a visitor leaves your website without viewing any additional pages.
How It's Calculated
Bounce Rate = (Single-page Sessions ÷ Total Sessions) × 100%
For example, if 100 visitors come to your site and 65 leave without visiting a second page, your bounce rate is 65%.
What It Tells You
A high bounce rate may indicate:
- Content doesn't match visitor expectations
- Poor user experience or site design
- Slow page loading speed
- Missing calls-to-action
However, context matters. Blog posts naturally have higher bounce rates than product pages.
Typical Values
- 70-90%: High, potentially problematic
- 40-70%: Average for most websites
- 20-40%: Excellent engagement
- <20%: Usually indicates tracking issues
